Broome High School senior Kourtney Wofford is no stranger to competition — or to making history. Already a three-sport All-Region athlete in volleyball, basketball, and soccer, a member of Broome’s state championship female strength team, and a standout student taking both Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement courses, Wofford has added one more challenge to her senior year: football. This season, Wofford became the first female player in Broome football history, taking on the role of varsity kicker for the Centurions. “I have watched Kourtney play athletics for a long time,” said head football coach Lynn Fleming. “She is a tremendous student-athlete, and we love having her be part of the team. Our guys love her being part of it as well!” For Wofford, competing in multiple sports is nothing new. Her coaches describe her as an athlete who brings the same work ethic, leadership, and team-first attitude to everything she does. “Kourtney can only be described as a generational athlete,” said basketball coach Brittany Shump. “She isn’t just a multi-sport athlete that dominates in her main sport. She is a multi-sport athlete that dominates in every sport she plays.” Soccer coach Paula Fernandez echoed statement, emphasizing Wofford’s impact beyond the scoreboard. “She is all about team, very unselfish, uses her talents to help her teammates improve, and is an incredible role model in every way,” Fernandez said. Volleyball coach Liz Cooksey added, “Kourtney is a three-sport All-Region athlete. She’s a member of the state championship strength team. Now, she’s the varsity kicker. She’s an all-around wonderful person, not just a phenomenal athlete.” While Wofford’s accomplishments continue to grow, those who know her best say her greatest strength may be the way she approaches every opportunity — with humility, a smile, and a genuine love for being a Centurion. From volleyball to basketball, soccer to strength, and now football, Kourtney Wofford is proving that there are no limits to what a determined student-athlete can accomplish. Broome is proud to watch her make history — and even prouder to call her a Centurion.
