Congratulations to newly graduated Gettys D. Broome High School alumnus Sam Shimanskiy! He was honored at last night's Board meeting. Sam won the 800 meters at the State Track and Field competition to become a State champion and set a new school record! He had the fastest 800 time of any runner in the State meet regardless of school size. He also set the school record for the 800 (to go along with his school record in the 1600). He was also named the Middle Distance Athlete of the prestigious All-American Track Classic. In track, Sam is a 10-time Region Champion and the 2022 Track Region Athlete of the Year. In cross-country, Sam is a 4-time All-Region runner and a 2-time Region Athlete of the Year. He made the All-State team this past year and was named to the Shrine Bowl Football Run Team. He also just graduated this past May and starts cross-country and track at Upstate today! Sam and the Broome Softball will receive their rings tonight at halftime at the Broome football game against Powdersville (August 19, 2022). The game starts at 7:30 pm. Join us!
